UN Democracy Fund Factsheet

On July 4, 2005 At the Africa Union Summit UN Secretary General Kofi Annan announced the creation of a UN Democracy Fund. The Fund will be a voluntary fund which will aid in the promotion and consolidation of new and restored democracies. American Bar Association Officially Supports the Creation of a UN Human Rights Council

OIn January 2004 the American Bar Association's Section of International Law established a task force on UN Reform. In June 2005 the task force's report and recommendations were released. The recommendations, which support the creation of a UN Human Rights Council and correspond closely with the recommendations of the NGO Coalition, have become official ABA policy.
